What is summer learning loss?

As the summer holidays loom in the distance after what has already been a strange year, you may find yourself worrying about the time they are about to have off and the gaps that may have already formed in your child's learning from the COVID-19 pandemic. Our advice is, don't worry, we are here to help!

Many, if not most teachers out there will know that when students return after the long summer holidays children’s recall of previous years knowledge is not always the best. Frequent discussions in staff rooms across the country will question whether objectives had been taught by their previous teacher or if the data given to them is accurate or not. The fact of the matter is that 'summer learning loss' has occurred. This is when skills and knowledge are lost due to children not actively engaging in academic tasks over the long summer holiday. Some of the statistics in the image to the right are quite shocking. It is therefore, really beneficial to ensure your child engages their brain over the break and there are a range of different ways to do this.

One of the ways in which we want to help tackle this issue, it by to providing virtual Literacy and Numeracy lessons throughout the summer period. The sessions will focus on common areas that we feel children need more support in. We hope that the children who work with us return back to school with the same knowledge that they left with before the summer holiday and perhaps a bit more confidence!

All of this is available for just £5.00 per session. And not to mention it keeps them busy for at least an hour at the weekend too! Visit our website to learn more or feel free to contact us with any questions you may have.

Have a wonderful Sunday!
